Hanif Mohammed – A Cricket Legend Passed away

Hanif Mohammed a cricket legend died yesterday on the 11th of August 2016. Pakistan had only a handful of world-class batsmen and Hanif Mohammed was one of them. He was inducted into ICC’s first batch hall of fame in 2009 with Javed Miandad and Imran Khan, An honour itself. He was nicknamed ‘little master’ because of his height. Born in a cricketing family his brothers Sadiq Mohammed, Mushtaq Mohammed were also very good cricketers and played test cricket for Pakistan. He holds a record for longest test innings lasting 16 hours and due to that innings Pakistan was able to draw a losing game. He also played a brilliant knock of 499 in 1960 in first class cricket , he was unbeatable in that innings but unfortunately got run out and three decades later Brian Lara was able to beat his record and scored 500* in first-class cricket. He also holds the record for the slowest innings scoring 20 runs in 223 balls having a strike rate of 8.5. he has 12 centuries in test cricket and 55 in first class cricket.
Hanif Mohammed was inspiring and we can thank him for his services in the cricketing world and Pakistan because back then cricket wasn’t popular as it is now. With no facilities or a proper setup, he grew to be a world-class legend. His name will forever be in the history books. His impeccable batting style and short height earned him the title of ‘little master’. He won’t be forgotten and always be a true cricketing hero in the eyes of all the cricket lovers irrespective of their country.
